What is force?
A force is a push or a pull that can change how an object moves. Newton's second law defines it: force equals mass times acceleration. The SI unit, the newton, is the force that accelerates one kilogram at one meter per second squared.
Weight is a force: the pull of gravity on a mass. On Earth a mass of 1 kg weighs about 9.81 newtons, which is why engineers once used the kilogram-force (the weight of one kilogram) and the pound-force (the weight of one pound). A newton is roughly the weight of a medium apple.
