How to convert octal to hexadecimal

Example: 377 to hexadecimal
Step 1: Octal to decimal
Multiply each digit by 8 to the power of its position (0 on the right), then add:
| Digit | Place value | Digit × place |
|---|---|---|
3 | 82 = 64 | 192 |
7 | 81 = 8 | 56 |
7 | 80 = 1 | 7 |
192 + 56 + 7 = 255
Step 2: Decimal to hexadecimal
Divide by 16 repeatedly and keep the remainders. Reading the remainders from the last one to the first gives the hexadecimal digits:
| Division | Quotient | Remainder (digit) |
|---|---|---|
| 255 ÷ 16 | 15 | F (15) |
| 15 ÷ 16 | 0 | F (15) |
Result: 255 = FF in hexadecimal.
